Getting Around in West 5

Getting Around in West 5

It’s been noted by experts that walkability is vital for a community to move towards sustainability. It creates a sense of place, promotes social interaction, and contributes to a healthy community. My vision is that West 5 will become an accessible, vibrant, pedestrian friendly community all year round, with a focus on reducing the use of vehicles. One of the main strategies for achieving this vision will be to encourage visitors who arrive by car to “park once and walk”.

The community will have a North–South pedestrian network that connects and aligns with the streets and lanes, inviting pedestrians to walk through the community. Once you’re in the heart of West 5, the walk along the main two streets will be anything but static. There will be boutique retailers, seating areas outside storefronts for relaxing or people watching, and lively public spaces with various seasonal activities. This system of trails will also lead to the centre of the community, where you can walk and get a bite to eat, watch a performance and then have a convenient way to get back home. Aside from just walking, West 5 will support cycling for all ages and abilities with a dedicated cycling network that will move throughout the community. Residents of West 5, as well as those who live in the surrounding communities, will be able to get around easily on their bicycles.

Connectivity will be fundamental in West 5. Multiple pathways will make it easy for everyone to get from point A to point B – and enjoy all the wonderful features that this revolutionary new development will have to offer.
