Could your preferred hair removal method be greener?
Sugaring removes unwanted hair by applying a paste of sugar, lemon and water. We asked our friends at Sugarbush Spa to share 5 benefits to sugaring.
Unlike traditional hot waxes that adhere to anything live, sugar paste only adheres to dead keratinized cells – which is what hair is made of. This means that there is risk of lifting the skin, and a practitioner can go over the same area more than once. Clean up is easy as it washes away with warm water.
The paste is slightly warmer than room temperature. The client and practitioner’s body temperature actually keeps the paste pliable, so there is no risk of burning the skin.
Although we do not suggest it – the paste is 100% edible.
The amount of waste is significantly less than other forms of hair removal. Sugarbush Spa does not use strips or spatulas, instead the process is completed using only the paste (sugar, lemon juice and water) and gloves! Sugaring should never be completed without a glove on each hand – it is the #1 PPE required.
Sugar paste is soft and pliable. This allows the paste to seep into the follicle and wrap around the hair for an easier, more gentle removal. With regular maintenance (every 4-6 weeks), the hair becomes weaker and loses its blood supply, resulting in a reduction of hair growth.
