Last time we spoke I introduced you to the most innovative and leading edge project in the history of Sifton Properties. My vision is to strive for a sustainable and 100% energy efficient community – and, let’s just say we’re putting our money where our mouth is. We’re building the most exciting and ambitious community in Canada, starting with our hallmark building, the Sifton head office. This week I  thought I would talk a bit more about sustainability, and how West 5’s innovation will lead the way for future builders.

We’re starting off strong. Our first building, which will house our head-office, is aiming to be a Net Zero building. This means that the building itself will generate the same amount of energy it uses –essentially allowing the building to virtually come off the grid.

West 5 is going to be the world’s most state-of-the-art community and sustainability will be woven into every element of its design. That means that it will be there, making your life better even if you’re not able to actually see it. We’re placing a strong emphasis on the use of solar power – and believe me when I say that you’ve never seen anything like it. My team and I are planning creative uses of the technology, such as solar parkades that will generate energy for the numerous commercial, retail and residential buildings within the community. They will also have the potential to provide cool shade for cars in the summer months.

The way I see it, smart, sustainable design is no longer a nice to have for residents, consumers and homebuyers; it’s a prerequisite that all builders will have to address. I’m confident that West 5 will become the model for how future communities are developed. In short, it’s going to change everything![ultimate_spacer height=”30″][vc_single_image image=”433″ img_size=”full”]
