Since we officially announced West 5 at the London Home Show, I’ve spent lots of time discussing just how sustainable our community is going to be. One of the elements that’s come up a few times are solar panels, which will help generate our electricity, thus reducing energy costs. I thought it might be beneficial to further explain both the benefits of solar energy, and just how it will improve your life – and the environment.
Solar energy, which is unlimited and reliable, is widely acknowledged as the future of alternative energy. It’s non-polluting and aids in curbing the negative effects on our climate that is resulting from the use of fossil fuels, which generate the bulk of the electricity we consume. Over the past 15 years, we’ve moved from a global capability of 1275 to 136,697 megawatts of solar energy annually, which is enough clean electricity to power over 27 million average homes. That’s a big growth, and West 5 is going to help further that progress here in Canada. They’ll be interwoven throughout the community, working to revert energy back into West 5. This means residents will enjoy savings on their energy, while helping to keep the air cleaner. That means you – and your family – will enjoy a healthier life not only inside, but also outside of the home.
West 5 is going to be the most sustainable community in Ontario. Period. This investment in solar energy is just one example of its progressive, sustainable, green design. In combination with rainwater harvesting and a host of energy efficient products and initiatives, we’re working to reduce our collective carbon footprint. We believe in preserving the future – and making it brighter for the next generation.
