Green for the Win
Growing up, if we wanted to go somewhere, we’d have to walk or ride our bikes. My friends and I used to walk to school each day, rain or shine, and ride our bikes to the park or to the corner store if our parents sent us out on errands. Some of my best childhood memories are of the jokes and stories my friends and I would tell and the adventures we’d find ourselves in on our way to and from the park. I didn’t realize it at the time, but having to rely on our own two feet to get us from place to place not only helped the planet, but kept us fit, gave us something to do and people to do it with.
It’s encouraging to see that the importance of a fitter and greener lifestyle has returned and communities are responding; more and more cities are creating designated bike paths and an increasing number of people are striving to be more fit as evidenced by the popularity of wearable fitness technologies like smart watches and electronic pedometers. Despite how easy it is now to spend all day sitting, people are more determined than ever before to spend more time strolling around and being as active as possible. Individuals are becoming more aware of environmental issues and are progressively looking to preserve and protect nature, which we’re all so fortunate to have.
