There’s no question – the Earth is an amazing planet. It provides us with everything we need to survive – from food, air, water and medicine to materials for shelter to keep us safe from the elements. This year, on April 21st, we invited everyone to join West 5 in celebrating Earth Day.
Earth Day is an annual event designed to inspire people to get outside, connect to nature and to learn more about environmental issues. Events, festivals, organized cleanups, and awareness walks are set up in cities across North America and around the world to show kindness and appreciation to the planet, and to learn new habits that will help you live a more sustainable lifestyle.
At West 5, we aspire to live every day like it’s Earth Day. Creating a sustainable community that strives to live a zero-waste lifestyle, is just one of the many ways we can say “thank you” for all that the Earth does for us. Here are just a few events that took place in the West 5 Community to celebrate our earth.
Thames River Clean-Up – Saturday, April 21st
Residents in West 5 made a difference in their community this past Earth Day by participating in the Thames River Clean-Up. This was a great opportunity for residents to connect with friends and neighbours while beautifying the community!
Earth Day Paint and Plant Activity @ the West 5 Discovery Centre
Over 100 friends and neighbours gathered together on Earth Day for a fun afternoon of celebrating! Kids enjoyed decorating and painting reusable clay pots and filling them with sunflower seeds. This event was a great teaching opportunity for children to learn how to plant and grow flowers! Our supplies included all-natural, Earth-friendly paint, clay pots!
