Though it’s been some time since I returned to school I always get a little rush of excitement as September approaches and we prepare to leave the lazy days of summer behind. Looking back, I can vividly remember the anticipation of the first day.
New clothes carefully laid out the night before. Hurriedly eating breakfast to rush out the door. Thoughts of reuniting with old friends and the promise of friendships to come. The thrill of writing your name neatly on the first blank page of your new notebook. The excitement of new beginnings and fresh possibilities. The opportunity for reinvention.
Watching West 5 continue to grow and evolve has been more than a little reminiscent of those back to school days. Breaking ground and seeing see visions for the future of sustainable living come to fruition over the past year has been tremendously rewarding, and as it all comes together I can’t help but imagine the community and people that will bring West 5 to life.
Much how I anticipated the first days of school, I eagerly look forward to seeing the West 5 community grow. Resident’s out enjoying the nearby shops, taking in the fresh air with an after dinner stroll, or sowing seeds in the community gardens to grow a beautiful bounty of food that can be shared with friends and neighbours. I imagine the children out playing, riding their bikes, racing home at the end of a long day, and getting back to nature in the abundance of green space and wooded areas surrounding West 5. A connected and supportive community where lifelong friendships begin.
