The beautiful weather has me thinking about all the ways you’ll be able to get outside and enjoy warm afternoons here at West 5. Physical activity can improve your overall health and quality of life – no matter your age. Studies show that community design, and the availability of open spaces, strongly influences how much activity people do on a daily basis. So here at West 5, we’re making it easy to get your heart pumping, and stay active.
Whether you’re walking into the centre square along a spacious trail that winds through the community, or enjoying a game of soccer with your family in one of the parks, there will always be something to keep you moving. Community play zones will give the little ones a safe place to run and explore on sunny mornings. There will be plenty of space to play outdoors with your family pet, before you spend the afternoon strolling through one of the many seasonal festivals. Connected, interconnected, and in tune with you ¬– West 5 will have everything you need to live a healthy lifestyle without having to venture outside of your community.
We know that opting to walk, run or bike can have positive effects on your physical and mental health, so we’re making those options more accessible. It’s a fact that people who live in walkable, connected neighbourhoods get roughly 35–45 more minutes of moderate physical activity per week. As well, it helps to ease traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and lower our overall carbon footprint. West 5 is going to be Ontario’s most sustainable and energy efficient community. This is just one example of how we have the future – and your health – in mind.
